Study skills

I'm going to be honest with you guys. I'm terrible at studying, just mustering up the tenacity to crack open the text and read it until I understand the concepts.
I'm interested to know what your struggles and strengths have been in hitting the books.
Please write freely, and mention whatever resources you have on learning how to learn, just as long as they aren't books. (-: -no, honestly, throw whatever you've got at me.

This comment is a little delayed, but better late than never, right?

The thing that helps me most is to try to figure out the significance of whatever it is I'm studying. For example, most of what I'm studying right now relates to history. So when I'm reading about a particular invention or a particular period in history, I try to figure out why that invention or that period mattered. How does it trickle down to affect me today?

Sometimes it might be hard to figure out why in the world I need to know this stuff, but there's always a reason. If I can find the reason, it makes it easier to concentrate--at it helps me remember the information better.
